I am familiar with this TV as I just set one up at a friend's house. Great picture, great quailty overall, and a very nice look.
Multiple inputs making it easy to connect all your gear - a real "Run whatya brung" TV as it has 3 HDMI inputs Multiple PC and Component Inputs and it even supports the old S-Video and RCA connections.
The menus are very basic and it lacks some of the advanced tuning that I am used to on my Sony 60 inch, but the picture quality is excellent and most users will find the menu of options more than sufficient. As someone else said everything is menu driven from the remote, with very few one touch functions.
I purchased this on the Amamzon 36 month Interest Free Deal. Cant beat 33 bucks a month.

Now the BAD - its delivering by CEVA who has no idea where my TV is? The last tracking scan was Newark NJ on Sunday - 22 miles away from my house... well today is Thursday - Hello? Anyone out there? I thought they would call me by now and when I call them - they thought it was picked up already? Picked up? Huh?

Great Price, Great TV but Amazon needs to find a better Delivery service CEVA is horrible. If I had read the message boards about CEVA formelery EAGLE freight I would have never purchased this TV at Amazon. I hope I finally get my TV.

Bought this at WalMart for two reasons, picture quality and inputs. Picture quality was outstanding considering it side-by-side with everything else they had at the store. That wasn't enough for me. I wanted connectivity options. This "TV" has 3 HDMI inputs (not 2 as the description says). One of the HDMI inputs is on the side of the TV so you can plug in anything you want, any time. It also has 2 VGA ports - one on the side. If that's not enough, there are two HD component inputs and optical and RCA audio outputs. But wait, there's an S-Video input too. Did I mention it also has an HD15 video monitor (from your PC) input? How about a 3.5mm audio input? WOWIE! Oops, it's got a coax input as well so you can use it as a regular old TV.

Pitcure's great, blah, blah, blah... but did I mention the connectors? This TV doubles as an admirable PC monitor at full 1080P (assuming your video card supports it). Was able to play FPS games at full resolution. Wow again.

Cons: Well, there are some. The first one is the minimalist remote control. Everything is menu driven, it seems, and it wasn't intuitive for me. I'd like more of it to be in shorter menus you can access from the remote. How about a universal remote? I have a Sony DVPCX995V 400-Disc DVD Mega Changer/Player that does HDMI 1080i upconverting (outstaning btw), a Sony home theater sound system as well. I have to have THREE different remotes for three Sony products. Arg. Then I have a satelite controller too.

The other beef I have is the highly limited PIP. It's got that many inputs, but you can only use one at a time. The only PIP functionality is when you're in PC mode with the HD15 input. Of course, if you're using the HDMI for PC input it's gone. This function is highly limited being a small box you can't change positions of. It's also poorly described in the instructions.

I had a 32" Sony LCD set that was very similar to this one. I would have initially gotten a 40" but my wife wanted to put it in a TV cabinet and the 40" was too big. After some shopping we couldn't find a cabinet that would fit in the desired location that would even hold the 32". At that point we found a buyer for the old set and bought this one. I mention that because there is one slight shortcoming with the new set, relative to the old one. With the old set I was able to hook my HD DVD player to the HDMI 1 input and then hook the optical audio output of the TV to my Sony surround sound system. The TV then passed the audio to the surround sound system, no matter whether the source was the internal TV tuner or the DVD player, connected to HDMI 1. With the new set, if I switch to HDMI 1, I get no sound from the a/v system. After conferring with a couple Sony tech representatives (whom I thought weren't very knowledgeable) we came to the conclusion that I would have to connect the DVD player through the surround sound a/v system and then into the TV. The a/v system has three HDMI connections as well, so this should be doable. However, it will take one more HDMI cable (I have a couple on order so I haven't verified this will work yet) and may be a little more cumbersome when it comes to switching between the TV tuner and the DVD player. But - presuming I get past this glitch, the picture is awesome!

I consider my self pretty low tech and wanted to leave my review for people who may be in the same boat as I am. I wanted a larger TV and I wanted simplicity, quality and not to wonder if it was all a waste.

Well I am super satisified with this TV for the following reasons.

1. Easy to set up. I don't have cable and it just scanned for all the HD and analog stations and that was pretty much about it.
2. Great sound. I don't have a stereo system to hook up to and so it was important that the TV's speakers could, well, speak for themselves. They are very good.
3. Picture is super and seems to adjust itself to suit whatever type of input (HD, Analog, DVD, Video) is coming in. People Don't look short and squat. Everything looks great, and full size and I don't have to do any adjusting when I change a channel.

Note: I will say that using a standard video tape produces an okay picture, but I assume this is the same for every TV. When I play DVD using my computer and connect to TV with HDMI cable, picture is excellent. So just using the antenna cable is not good enough with my current DVD player. I will likely update it or just play it through my computer.

Also, as other reviews say, set up (base mount) was easy. Slide it on base and tighten four screws.

Anyway, I'm sure I'm missing 75% of the features of this baby, but for the "simple cave man HD TV Guy" I am completely satisfied.

Also, TV doesn't make any buzzing or humming noises (hey, that stuff bugs me so I thought I'd add it).

Good luck with your purchase.

I considered the Sony 40W4100/40Z4100 and also Samsung 40" 650/750 models. After weeks of research, I finally went with the 40V4100 based on budget and "must have" technical specifications. I can't imagine the higher end models being much better than this TV. It was even more impressive once I got it home and away from the "over-stimulation" by all the TVs on display at the store. The setup was easy. The clarity is phenomenal. The remote control and on-screen options were well thought out by Sony. First class TV in the $1300-$1500 price range. The only problem is that I find myself watching more TV and doing less chores around the house!

Pros: picture quality, contrast, XMB menu, artificial surround sound, variable sound output level, 4xHDMI outputs, HDMI device control

Cons: can't think of any

Sony doesn't disappoint with this 1080p set. I was amazed at how great the image was right out of the box, but it was even better after a little tweaking. Standard definition is about as good as any other LCD. The speakers on the TV are very nice compared to other sets that I've heard and I love that it controls the sound output level so i can control my surround and the volume on the set with the remote. It works great with my PS3 as long as its in the "game mode" and Blu-Rays look amazing. I highly recommend this set.

There are many LCD HDTVs in market today and picture quality is quite comparable. When you take a TV home, it always "look" great but what you should also consider is its feature-set, user friendliness. This Sony tv is very nice in all aspects for the price tag it has. The discounted one, I mean and not the MSRP. The remote is much more responsive, lots of control options, very nice cinemotion even without the 120Hz. Dont judge TVs too much by response time and contrast ratios. These numbers are product specific and can not be compared across. I also like this tv can lock channel irrespective of the ratings info. The on-screen guide is very nice.
Has very rich and true colors, deep black levels, good surround sound. When you switch channels, they change very quickly as compared to some other TVs. The information displayed is also very good.
Overall, a very good buy.
Cons: No backlit remote, no swivel stand, USB port is not generic.

This is a remarkable TV for the money, with a great picure and resolution up to 1080p (P for progressive scan -- 1080 lines of resolution with no interlace), and also support for 24 frames-per-second movie playback with Blu-ray high definition DVDs.

Setting up is straightfoward -- you set up the stand where you want it, lift the TV onto it, and tighten 4 screws. It can also be wall mounted. On the back are the large range of inputs: three HDMI, two component, one S-Video, two standard video (RCA jacks) and one VGA port. You can guarantee that whatever you have, you'll be able to connect it to this TV.

The best quality of output and convenience comes from HDMI connections (order some low cost HDMI cables from Amazon; my local stores wanted $50-$179!) A Blu-ray DVD player connected to the TV via HDMI delivers outstanding picture quality at 1080p, with amazing detail. It's so good, in fact, that I found myself noticing film grain more often -- you can practically count the grains!

This TV supports 24 frames-per-second ("24p" in the jargon), which matches the screen refresh rate to that used in movies. The visible difference shows up in shots where the camera pans (moves parallel to the scene). With regular TV playback, panning makes the scene blurry and you can't see much detail because extra "interpolated" frames are inserted to match the TV frame rate. Panning shots in "Casino Royale" blu-ray DVD were clear at 24p, revealing some visual jokes I missed before (e.g. the Richard Branson cameo at airport security). For movies like The Bourne Ultimatum with lots of camera movement, 24p makes the whole movie clearer.

Screen contrast of the TV is also very good. Blacks appear black, color is not overdone (though there is a "vivid" setting if you want to boost saturation). Lower resolution sources at 480i look pretty good -- they are upscaled nicely by the TV. Connecting a Wii with the standard video cables worked fine and produced a good picture.

For HDTV sources, this TV does excellent noise reduction and yet still delivers crisp detail and good color. This is where other LCD TVs fall down, and Sony really has done a great job with the Bravia engine.

Sound from the internal speakers is very good indeed, with dialogue particularly clear. Home theater speakers are better, but then that's true for any TV.

I am very happy with my purchase -- the TV has a stellar set of features at a great price versus more expensive versions with more bells and whistles... which I don't need. It is not the cheapest LCD TV in the 40" size, but the picture quality and number of source inputs sets it apart.

Have had my 40V4100 a month now. Had originally wanted the "W" with 120 Hz but this "V" was on sale locally making the difference $600. I do not regret buying this 60 Hz set, and saving hundreds of dollars. Overall it is excellent after getting the picture settings adjusted to my liking. Audio quality from the built-in speakers is surprisingly good with the Dynamic mode ON and some extra bass and treble. I do have a minor problem that seems to be common to this new line of Sony LCD TVs - intermittent tiny bright white dots that appear randomly across the picture in a straight line, just a few at a time, about 4" below the top of the picture, in HDMI mode only. Most noticeable on dark or black scenes. I almost exchanged the set for another one, until I saw the same white dots on a 40V4100 at the store playing a Blu-Ray disc. So far Sony's support does not seem to recognize the problem. I hope Sony will pay attention to what their customers are telling them and come up with a fix for this ASAP because it can be quite noticeable on HDMI upcsaled DVD or Blu-Ray sources. If not for that I would rate it a 5.

EDIT and UPDATE! Sept 14, 2008 - I am happy to report that Sony has come through and addressed the white dot sparkle problem with an easy to use software/firmware update via a USB flash drive they sent. I now have ZERO white dot sparkles, and a perfect picture. Excellent! And at today's prices a couple of hundred dollars less than in May when I bought mine, it is an even better deal!

I have the V-Series Sony 40" LCD set immediately preceding this model. Based on my experience with the earlier model, I've recommended the KDL 40V4100 to friends and family. The differences: 1. When the 40V4000 first came out, it was being sold for as much as twice the price of this one; 2. the previous model had 10- bit color processing (which now is available only on the more expensive Z or later series). Although 120Hz is now the rage (available beginning with the W series), Sony's unique 24 fps Movie True mode is likely to make a more noticeable difference in "smoothening out" camera movement than 120Hz capability (which is primarily a come-on for the gamers and "Matrix" generation).

For under $1500, this is the set I would unhesitatingly select ahead of a comparable Samsung (you can get the price down to around $1000 if you go with the S series, but you'll sacrifice Sony's acclaimed Bravia 2 processor as well as Sony's auto-link feature permitting operation of all components with a single switch). If I were willing to spend close to $2000 or more, I would look at a 46"-52" Sony with 120 Hz (just to be current) and 10-bit color processing for a hi-def picture that simply leaves nothing to be desired. I would also do everything possible to purchase from Amazon. (I had to make two exchanges before ending up with the "right" model, and Amazon as usual made both hassle-free transactions.) Also, be sure to check out Amazon Warehouse for a "refurb" or "scratch and dent" model. I've never been disappointed in any of these items at reduced prices, or even noticed any difference from mint.

A couple of things learned through experience: 1. A flat-panel set does not "play" as large as the old tube models. If you formerly required a 27" convection tube screen, you'll need 32"-40" to enjoy a similar viewing experience with an LCD flat screen. 2. When watching HDTV telecasts (still only a small percentage of channels), it's quite likely you'll notice little to no difference from standard definition if the screen is less than 40". So if you're planning on purchase of a 36" or smaller screen, skip the extras. 720p is more than adequate, and most of the other frills can be regarded as needless extra expense. Also, SD (standard definition) will look better on any small screen than on the most expensive manufacturer's large screen models, so make price--not brand name--the primary criterion when selecting a screen under 40".

Installing this mount bracket is quite easy, and can be trusted to hold 52" TV and it supports more models than the ones in the description (we hung two different TVs on it, and it compares better that the others I have seen for the price). I recommend this product.

Don't let the price fool you into thinking this is not a quality product. Not only is the bracket and arms of solid construction you get an amazing amount of bolts, washers, spacers that will accomodate any flat screen TV.

It comes in a shiny strong box that's shipped in another snug fitting shipping box, so there's no chance of shipping damage.

Seriously, I don't know how Warehouseseller can sell this high quality product for this price.

As the instructions say, make sure you use a stud finder to find the vertical wall studs. You want the lags to hit the center of the stud. Another trick I've learned in locating the center of a stud (if you don't have a stud finder) is to knock on the wall. As you move down the wall you'll hear the sound go from a hollow knock to a harder one. This is where a stud is located.

(Locating the upper two lag bolt hole points) Put a pencil mark at the harder knock point. Now take a drill motor, a 1/16" bit and start drilling holes left and right of your mark until you find both edges of the stud. Adjust your mark to be centered on the first stud. Vertical studs are placed 16" on center, so measure over 16" and locate the 2nd stud in the same manner using the drill motor. Make sure to drill a pilot hole into the stud, so the lag doesn't split the stud. The hole will be the size of the lag shank (thickness of the lag without the threads).

Now that you have the upper lags holes drilled the lower ones should fall into place, but if you feel inclined you can "drill search" the lower ones also.

The built in level is fairly accurate, but I used a 4' level to make sure.

Another trick I’ve learned in locating the center of a stud (if you don’t have a stud finder) is to knock on the wall. As you move down the wall you’ll hear the sound go from a hollow knock to a harder one. This is where a stud is located.

(Locating the upper two lag bolt hole points) Put a pencil mark at the harder knock point. Now take a drill motor, a 1/16″ bit and start drilling holes left and right of your mark until you find both edges of the stud. Adjust your mark to be centered on the first stud. Vertical studs are placed 16″ on center, so measure over 16″ and locate the 2nd stud in the same manner using the drill motor. Make sure to drill a pilot hole into the stud, so the lag doesn’t split the stud. The hole will be the size of the lag shank (thickness of the lag without the threads).

Now that you have the upper lags holes drilled the lower ones should fall into place, but if you feel inclined you can “drill search” the lower ones also.

The built in level is fairly accurate, but I used a 4′ level to make sure.

Fantastic wall mount. Easy to set up and super strong. Holds my 46" LCD with ease. Read a few reviews of people complaining about the poor instructions and the mount being unlevel. (use a level folks!!) Well, if you have even the slightest mechanical ability, you can hang this thing blindfolded. Also, it's infinitely adjustable, so if the main wall plate is not perfectly level, you can compensate with the adjustable plate that mounts to the TV. (There are 5 allen head screws that allow the TV to rotate. So, if the wall mount is down on the left side, you can rotate the TV plate to the right to compensate. Why are people freaking out??) Just get this mount already!!It's the cat's ass!! If you have a problem with it, contact me directly and I'll help you out. Also, this new girl I'm dating is coming over tonight and when she sees my new wall mounted TV, her clothes are going to literally fall off her body!! Yes, there will be more than one thing being mounted tonight!!!

This mount is heavy at 38lbs and seems sturdy, but the mounting bolts, bushing, rods and hardware are of extreme poor quality. The machining and fit and finish is also poor. I mounted a 58" Plasma TV weighing 138 lbs and there was so much twist and sag that I was concerned that the mount would hold my TV. One of the pivot rods and bushing even fell out while the TV was sitting on the bracket because the rod was too short and only about one thread was holding. The dual pivot arms is a good design and I liked the way it can be pulled out from the wall to get to cables. So, I went to the hardware store and purchased new bolt and some washers to rebuild the mount using solid hardware. This worked out well and reduced the sag and twist to almost nothing. Another problem was the tilt feature. It is very difficult and get the center bolt and the 2 adjustment knobs tight enought to prevent the TV from slipping and tilting fully down. I would only recommed this mount for smaller TVs or for someone that wants to replace the mounting hardware.
